MAY 2008

Walk at Sable Farms, Chisamba IBA, on Sunday the 18th May.
Meet at 8:30 am at Sable Dam.
Directions: Drive north along the Great North Road. About 40 km north of Lusaka, turn right (east) at the police post at the turning to Chisamba town. Drive for about 12 km along this tarred road and turn left (north) at the sign to Sable farm. Drive for a further 5 km until you reach a dam. This is the meeting point for the outing, where we will search for waterbirds while waiting for people to gather. The entrance to Sable farm is about another 500 km down on the left. Sable Farm has several nice dams and patches of woodland, plus the Lusali hills, which are the row of 4 hills you see when driving north of Lusaka. We will start with a walk along a dambo past two dams, and then go up into the Lusali Hills to a pleasant site with a view over woodland and farmland. This is a nice place for a picnic so please feel free to bring along drinks and lunch. In a short reconnaissance trip, we saw saddle-billed storks, western banded and booted eagle, bateleur, gymnogene, secretary bird, several antelope species and several miombo specials.
